Camp Fire
USA is a not-for-profit youth development organization serving
youth from birth to 21 years of age. We are inclusive, open to
every person in the communities we serve, welcoming children, youth
and adults regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic status,
disability, sexual orientation or other aspects of diversity.
Camp Fire USA's programs are designed and implemented to reduce
sex-role, racial and cultural stereotypes and to foster positive
intercultural relationships.
Camp Fire was founded in 1910 as an organization
devoted to helping girls of all races and religions to reach their full potential as
individuals, family members, and citizens of their communities.
In 1975, boys became participants in the wide
variety of Camp Fire activities. Soon Camp Fire Boys and Girls was known
nationwide for coeducational programs that teach children and youth about
safety,
self-esteem and self-reliance, responsible and respectful attitudes, social and
communication skills, and concern for others, our community and our environment.
In 2000, the program adopted its current name, Camp Fire USA.
The New Mexico Council's KIDS CARE provides
before-
and after-school programs at school sites throughout Albuquerque and Taylor Ranch with group activities designed to enrich, entertain, and educate children 5-13 years old. KIDS CARE
also offers extended care programs during many school holidays,
and a full-day Summer Adventure Camp program.
Purpose of Camp Fire
USA
To provide, through a program of informal education,
opportunities for youth to realize their potential and to function effectively as caring,
self-directed individuals, responsible to themselves and to others; and, as an
organization, to improve those conditions in society which affect youth.

The New Mexico
Council has provided school age child care since 1981. In addition, we provide self-reliance courses in subjects such as professional
baby-sitting and peer-proofing, as well as innovative school-based projects
such as the Rocket Reader Volunteer Literacy Program.
Well-trained staff are key to quality youth
programming. The New Mexico Council strives to provide a work environment and a
salary and benefit structure which attract high-quality individuals, promote staff
longevity, encourage learning, and instill loyalty and commitment to positive youth
development. Generally, we provide a 12 to 1 child to staff ratio in
our school-age programs.
Safety of your children is one of our major concerns. Child care
staff are interviewed by Human Resource personnel, carefully screened through
reference and criminal record checks, and required to take a tuberculosis test. Staff are required to
attend initial orientation, first aid and CPR training, and two hours of continuing
education per month in order to enhance their knowledge and skills.
